DefCon One on LiveJournal!
DefCon One Publishing LLC is a small press game company based in Seattle, WA. Its focus is the development of games that explore the hobby of roleplaying games from new angles. This includes examining traditional settings and genres in new ways, drawing upon new sources of inspiration for game mechanics and simply exploring new ways to roleplay.

At the moment, DefCon One does not have any products in print, due to the entire staff of one working on projects for other companies. If you would like to help support the work of DefCon One, visit the Resources page for links to products that you can buy to finance the company's efforts.

Letter from Bolthy: March 31, 2005

It's been a long time since I've been able to update the site. In addition to everything else, I'm also the Web master. When life gets busy for me, a lot of things fall through the cracks. So here's just a brief and general update about what's going on and why the site hasn't been updated. In general, life has been hectic, but I have some general news that looks promising.

One of the big consumers of my time (outside of my day job) has been a second business that I've gotten going: Kthulhu Kitsch. The idea for a Cthulhu devotional candle has led to me creating a small shop for Lovecraftia. Though they are seperate legal entities, my hope is that the money I make through Kthulhu Kitsch will be able to further fund the work of DCO.

Speaking of the works of DCO, I have three projects in the pipeline.

  • First is the one I will refer to only as Secret Project X. Writing on it is mostly complete. I'm just waiting for art. It's a bit of a strange project, but I'm hoping to have it available via POD by this fall.

  • The second project I'm working on is Novus Ordo Seclorum. I've signed a couple of writers for this project, and we're working on it as much as our busy schedules allow. I'm hoping to have that available by early next year.

  • In a more embryonic stage, I've begun working with the youth group of a local Buddhist temple to try and create a Buddhist roleplaying game. The main goal is to create a fun and easy-to-approach game that encourages ethical and spiritual conduct. Plus, it's a great way to broaden the appeal of roleplaying games outside of the "geek" community.
In terms of work that I am involved in with other companies:
  • Guardians of Order: The latest release date for The Game of Thrones RPG is now May of this year. With the changes in the company, I'm not sure what will become of The Authority Companion or the other project I was tentatively involved in.

  • Seraphim Guard: The fate of Spells and Swords is unknown. The company has gone through a lot of changes lately and there hasn't been a lot of news coming out of there lately.
  • Goodman Games: I provided some writing for a sourcebook titled Steam Warriors for the DragonMech. I'm not sure if the work will be used, and the book is not mentioned on the site yet, but it's something to keep an eye open for.
That's about it. If you'd like to help support DefCon One, you can either do some shopping at Kthulhu Kitsch, or shop at Amazon.com through our Associate Program. Or, if you just want to drop me a line you can email me at moreinfo@defconone.com.

I'll work to update the site more often with updates. Also, if you do the whole LiveJournal thing, you can visit the company blog.

Talk at you later,
- Jeremy "Bolthy" Zimmerman
